Bight Reef is also referred to by some as Coral Gardens Reef, due to its location directly in front of Coral Gardens Resort. The Bight Reef is an excellent spot for snorkelers of all experience levels, especially those who are beginners and non-swimmers. The reef is steps from the shore, making it easily accessible to everyone.

It’s teeming with marine life such as colorful fish, turtles and various corals. The clear water offers great visibility, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of this protected reef. The protected area is surrounded by large red buoys to mark where you aren’t allowed to snorkel. Stay outside those buoys to help keep the coral protected. There’s still plenty to see around the edge though, so don’t worry. To the left of the reef is a large patch of seagrass where you’ll see turtles and rays. Plus there's plenty of fish in and around the reef to keep you more than entertained. You might even catch a glimpse of a barracuda.

We always say Bight Reef is the perfect spot to spend a beach day practicing your snorkeling skills before heading out on a snorkeling tour. It’s a fantastic snorkeling location to get your feet wet, so to speak, before you head out to the open water on a snorkel excursion.

If you're the type who loves a more intimate connection with nature and wants to dodge the crowds, Smiths Reef is where you'll  want to snorkel in Providenciales. It's like a secret haven, where you can truly lose yourself in the beauty of the underwater realm. Turtle sightings are a plenty any time we’ve been snorkeling at Smiths Reef.

Ultimately, Smiths Reef is your playground, whether you're a rookie snorkeler or a seasoned pro. In our opinion, we would advise those who are beginners to wear your life vest. Or stay very close to your snorkel buddy. With the reef being in very shallow water and the wind and currents sometimes much stronger than the calm atmosphere at Bight Reef, it’s best suited to the more intermediate level of snorkeler. Also, if you’re snorkeling near the entrance of the boat channel into Turtle Cove Marina, be mindful of boat traffic to ensure your safety in the area.

That being said, the shallow waters near the shoreline provide a safe haven for beginners. They let you ease into the whole snorkeling adventure with minimal fuss.

Best Snorkeling From The Beach In Providenciales For More Advanced Snorkelers

Malcolm's Road Beach

Malcolm's Road Beach is a lesser known snorkeling spot that offers a far more remote experience compared to other locations. Here you’ll find some of the best snorkeling in Turks and Caicos right off the shore. But, be forewarned, it’s a trek to get there. You will 100% need a four wheel drive vehicle to take you safely along the gigantic potholed dirt road to this location. Don’t go alone or in a small vehicle. Go in a group or an experienced local who can navigate that road properly. You don’t want to get stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

At Malcolm's Road Beach  you can expect to encounter vibrant corals and an abundance of marine life. Nurse sharks, eagle rays, and various types of tropical fish are all the norm. The limestone rocks jutting out from shore often remind us of tables sitting around the water's edge. Even if you don’t feel comfortable snorkeling, you can still sit on the rocks in the water and see fish from the ledge. What’s also exciting about this off the shore snorkeling spot in Turks and Caicos is the addition of man made coral pots placed a short distance from the shoreline. These help the coral in the area thrive and continue to grow.

The secluded nature of Malcolm's Road Beach makes it an excellent choice for those who prefer a more laid back snorkeling experience. However, we would caution that this be an area where more advanced snorkelers would be better suited. You're far away from anything and anyone so it’s best you are fully comfortable being out in the sea on your own. The Amanyara Resort is a short distance away. But not close enough for comfort should a beginner snorkeler get into a spot of trouble.

Is Grace Bay Beach A Good Snorkeling Location?

While you can snorkel from the beach anywhere along Grace Bay Beach, chances are you aren’t going to see too much in regards of marine life other than a few bottom feeder fishes or a few Snapper. But, does that mean you can’t snorkel along Grace Bay? No! By all means jump in and enjoy that lush sandy ocean floor. Or practice your snorkel skills before heading out to some of the other locations on this list for your adventures. Grace Bay Beach is ideal for practicing your snorkeling due to its calm, crystal clear and shallow waters.
