Popular Grocery Stores in Turks and Caicos – Providenciales
Whether you're staying in the hub of Grace Bay or the quieter corners of Providenciales, knowing where to find the nearest grocery store can make your trip smoother and more enjoyable. This section will guide you through the most popular grocery stores on the island, each tailored to accommodate visitors staying in specific areas.
Graceway Gourmet
Located in the heart of Grace Bay. This smaller, full service grocery store will likely be your “go to” during your stay in Grace Bay. It's convenient and stocked with all the essentials you'll need for your trip. From sunscreen to Prosecco, you'll find what you need.
They also have a wonderful deli section offering up delicious ready cooked hot and cold meals. We personally love stopping in for some inexpensive lunch options, especially the fried chicken and side of coleslaw. There's also a great selection of fancy cheeses and cold meat options at this location. Great for those picnics on the beach!
Being the most convenient of all the grocery stores for tourists in Grace Bay, you will see slightly higher prices at this location than you will at the other grocery locations.
Graceway IGA
Graceway IGA is centrally located along Leeward Highway. This is a larger grocery store, more like what you're used to back home. It's filled with all your usual grocery store items with plenty of variety making this a better choice if you plan to do a “big shop.” You might also find this location a little less expensive than the Gourmet location, making it a better choice if you're on a tight budget.
It offers a large and vibrant selection of fruits and vegetables, as well as a wider variety of options in all departments, especially meat, chicken, and fish. The store also features a deli section with hot and cold items and pre packaged meals, which come in handy if you're looking for a quick snack to take to the beach or are on the go. Personally, we prefer the deli at Graceway Gourmet as there's more fancy cheese and cold meat options.
Graceway IGA boasts the largest liquor department among the IGAs on the island, which is great for a one-stop-shop before hitting your resort. You will find higher prices for alcohol in the grocery stores, but it is convenient when grocery shopping.
If you've rented a car, this is a great location to stop at on your way from the airport as it's right off the main highway that takes you to Grace Bay. If you're staying in Turtle Cove, Long Bay, Grace Bay or Leeward, it's an easy stop on your way.
Graceway Smart IGA
Located near the Provo Airport at the Town Center Mall, Smart IGA is an excellent first stop for visitors no matter what area of the island you're staying in. What sets this store apart are its affordable prices, making it the most budget friendly of all three IGA stores on the island.
It's a one stop shop, offering a wide range of items from meats and fresh produce to pharmacy essentials. For those on the go, the deli section is a fully stocked, featuring a variety of hot and cold meals.
Another unique feature is their “bargain price” deals, perfect for those looking to stretch their dollar and stay on budget. And just like the other IGA locations, Smart IGA offers a selection of alcohol, including all your local favorites.
While we've only been in Smart IGA a couple of times, we found it to be on par with the other two locations on the island. It's doubtful you'd be going out of your way to head back to this grocery store during your stay, but it's definitely a great stop when you first arrive.
Sunny Foods
If you're staying in the Chalk Sound area, particularly near Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay, Sunny Foods is your most convenient grocery store. It's a popular spot for grocery shopping on the south side of Providenciales, catering to both tourists and locals. If you didn't stop at the Smart IGA by the airport, this would be your next option on the way to your villa.
The store is known for its local, competitive prices. It offers a unique selection of Caribbean and Asian cuisine items, alongside major U.S. brands. The produce section may not be as extensive as other stores, but offers the basic fruit and vegetable staples. It's said that Sunny Foods offers better prices for household items like paper towels and cleaning supplies etc.
While we haven't personally shopped at Sunny Foods, we believe it's important to share this option with you.
Convenience Stores In Providenciales
If you're in need of just a few items or looking for a bag of snacks, Providenciales has several convenience store options. Many of the gas stations along Leeward Highway double as convenience stores, offering a range of snacks, drinks, beer and wine, and basic supplies. However, it's worth noting that these tend to be more expensive than the larger grocery stores.
For those staying in or around Grace Bay, there are a few mini marts to consider. The Mini Mart in Caicos Plaza is a handy option, as is Sandcastle Groceries and Gifts, which is located next to Opus Wine Bar and Grill. If you find yourself in the Leeward community, the market at Blue Haven Resort is another convenient choice for picking up essentials.
INSIDER TIP: You can't purchase alcohol in the grocery stores on Sundays. However, Sandcastle Groceries and Blue Haven Market are exempt from this, seeing as they are part of resort properties.
